Welcoming New Herbs (bought Online)

Finally today my new herbs came! I bought it online, sent yesterday and arrived this morning. So what are they?

  1. Sage (Salvia officinalis)
  2. Thyme (Thymus vulgaris)
  3. Oregano (Origanum vulgare)
  4. Basil (Ocimum basilicum)
The packed them neatly 😊

So I need to share with all of you how to preserve plants that you bought online, the plants already tired even when it's from long distance travel they must be dehydrated, sometime their leaves color is become yellowish and withered. Don't worry about it, I have the solution, here it's!
Prepare 2 litres water and mix them with 1 tablespoon of Vitamin B1, there are a lot of vitamin B1 brands in nursery or you can buy online from e-commerce.

Once you prepared the mixture of Vitamin B1 and water, open the seal (usually it's paper) of plants carefully,  make sure don't tear the leaves unintentionally, the put in the shade (in my photo, I put the newly herbs under my mango tree) and spray them with fresh water, it'll make them fresh after long journey 😆

And once again, don't forget to spray.

After make them fresh, it's time to soak them in the mixture of water and Vitamin B1, this is important, after long journey, the plants tend to be stress, so the solution is Vitamin B1, maybe you already watched the tutorial how to soak the plants in the mixture of water and Vitamin B1, some said the plant should be soaked for 15 minutes, some of them said the plant should be soaked for 2-3 hours. In my case, which is my herbs are tiny plants and I think it's not necessary to soak them for 2-3 hours, so I chose the middle way, I soaked them for 45 minutes only and wished the nutrient of Vitamin B1 absorbed perfectly into the plants.

Make sure all of the root inside the polibag is soaked perfectly, and yeah, I said "polibag", the polibag should be intact, not separated yet from the plant, because if you take of the plant from its polibag the soil around the root will be raveled.

While waiting the soaking process, prepare the new polibag with the rice husk, I chose rice husk because it's so porous, cheap and adaptable for every plants. Mediterranean herbs love porous growing media, instead of full soil or mixture compost and rice husk, I prefer 100% rice husk.
Put rice husk for 1/3 part of polibag size and spray it with water.

After soak process is finished, it's time to move the plant into new polibag. Tear off the old polibag and make sure the soil isn't raveled, do it slowly (treat them like a baby 👶).
Pardon my bare hand 😁😛, put the plant in the middle and add some rice husk till full

I did them one by one till all of my herbs moved safely.

Done!, now spray again with fresh water. Put them in the shade, they are not strong enough to face the sun exposure directly, let them breathing and take a rest for 3 or 4 days and spray it with water regularly (don't too much), then put them into direct sunlight when they are strong enough. Strong enough? How do I know they are strong enough? In my experience to make sure they are strong enough to be outside and facing direct sunlight is touching gently their stem, if it's not easily move, I am sure enough they are already strong which means their root already gripping the soil and rice husk perfectly.

I'll keep you updated!
