Starting a New Chapter: My Journey to Japan for a Ph.D.
| The lovely people |
The first few days have gone surprisingly smoothly. Settling into a new country always comes with its own set of challenges, but so far, things have fallen into place quite nicely. One thing I immediately noticed, though, is the weather. When it rains and the wind picks up, it gets really cold—colder than I expected. Wearing a jacket has quickly become part of my daily routine.

Despite being in a completely new environment, I’ve been fortunate to meet kind and welcoming people. Making new friends, even in the early days, has made a huge difference. Their warmth helps balance the unfamiliarity of everything around me.
Of course, not everything is easy. The beginning of this journey has been emotionally challenging at times. I find myself missing my family and friends back home more than I anticipated. There’s a quiet kind of loneliness that comes with starting over in a new place—but I know this is all part of the process, and something I’ll grow through.

I’ve also started getting familiar with everyday life here—visiting various konbini (convenience stores), which are incredibly practical and fascinating in their own way. It’s the small routines like these that slowly make a new place feel like home.

This is just the beginning. There will be ups and downs, moments of doubt and moments of joy—but I’m here, and I’m committed to making the most of this opportunity.
Here’s to new experiences, personal growth, and the journey ahead.
